Ackal Province

The far northern region of Northern Ergoth is dealt with very lightly by the Empire of Ergoth, preferring to deal with the barbarian tribes of those lands with a light touch so as not to incite a second rebellion as their forebears had. Modern Ackal is filled with numerous tribes of varying size who roam about the lands raiding villages and assaulting unwary travellers. They operate in and around a few settlements, and also sail the waters of the Turbidus Ocean as pirates, causing problems for Solamnian ships and merchants who have all begged the empire to intercede and deal with the Ackalites once and for all.

The Ackal Province is ruled by a council of tribal chiefs who rule for life, and in turn give their allegiance to a single Overchief who mediates disputes between the tribes and can call on all tribes in times of war. An Overchief is elected from amongst the council and rules for three years, after which they can prove their worthiness to retain the position for another term – usually by travelling to World’s Heart with the council’s shamans and battling every chief who would challenge them for the title.
