Hylo
Located on the eastern side of Northern Ergoth and called Hyloian by the Kender who call it their home, this area is well protected from sea storms by the Sentinel Mountains and contains temperate forests all year around. Hylo was founded during the Age of Dreams when a band of Kender took a flying citadel they had “found” for a quick flight, and crashed into the Sentinel Mountains. Liking the land, they claimed it and started to build the first villages, naming the area “High” for how high the citadel had flown, and “Low” for how high it was when it crashed.
The new nation quickly established strong trading relations with both Ergoth and Tarsis, eventually becoming a vassal of the Empire of Ergoth, causing a war with Tarsis. Hylo would become independent some centuries later though, only to be overrun during the third dragon war and rescued again when Huma Dragonbane defeated Takhisis. During the Cataclysm much of the nation was destroyed or submerged, and the Kender there knew a dreadful fear and could not understand why they were being punished for what the humans of Istar had done. Thousands of Kender died, leading many others in Hylo to become highly religious, bringing an unusual peace to what remained of the area for hundreds of years to come.
The Kender here call themselves Hyloian, and hold as contest each year on election day to decide their leader for the next year – previous contests having included spitting seeds the farthest, swimming the fastest, or standing on your head for the longest. They are as yet blissfully unaware that a war is even taking place on the continent, thinking any news they have heard from the humans to the west or the goblins to the south is just a good story, but not worth worrying about.
The capital of the Kender nation, and home of the current ruler of Hylo - Loraliee Spellslinger – who won the title by performing card tricks and sleight-of-hand that amazed the population.
