Lantern
East of Tarsis and easily spotted from a distance, Lantern is a small village built atop a rise in the low plains, around an old temple to Sirrion in his aspect as the god of fire. In ages long past, the temple kept an eternal flame as a beacon for lost travelers to see and find shelter. In the years after the Cataclysm a few faithful tried to maintain the lost divine fire by lighting the beacon every night, but were forced to abandon this practice as the light would attract bandits and barbarians from across the Plains of Dust who would come and take whatever the village and temple had. Lantern is now a shadow of it’s former self, constant raids having made it a shattered and bare shell. It is governed by a haunted mayor named Alsted Creed who has been fighting a crisis of faith his entire life. Strangers are commonly turned away by the village’s loose militia if they can not prove that they have something of value to offer, though coin alone is often not enough for those living in the shadow of an abandoned temple.
