Thon-Thalas River
A single great river 450ft wide runs through the forest, shielded by a canopy of vast trees arching their branches over it’s usually crystal clear waters. Any road through Silvanesti will eventually come to the river, covered by a vast canopy of branches and leaves and runs from the north-west of the forest. In most places the river is usually quite tranquil even though it continues to slowly flow ever onwards with silvery leaves drifting along it’s surface. Since the raising of the nightmare though, the water has become unpleasantly warm, and the air around it has become stagnant as though something nearby were slowly rotting away. In some parts the river is in much worse condition, having become bogged in rotting leaves and mud, creating great mires and swamps that can swallow heavy objects or creatures if they fall in. Strange creatures have also been seen both under it’s surface and on it’s banks – monsters and mutations that have never been seen in Silvanesti before. According to local lore – known to any Elf – it is possible to see reflections of the future on the water’s clear surface if you but toss a handful of coins into it. Those of Silvanesti descent will know the legend to be a truth rather than mere superstition, and will know that taking a reading from the river is an important tradition before any great undertaking or journey. Lorac Caladon consulted the Thon-Thalas before ordering the evacuation of Silvanesti, and his daughter Alhana took a reading as she fled, leading her to the city of Tarsis. Three coins must be cast into the river to receive a vision, and each must be of a different denomination. Once a creature has thrown the coins into the water, an image resolves itself in the surface that all can see. This vision will always be of an important moment in the creature’s immediate future, offering guidance for their journey, and suggesting either a destination or a course of action that will result in the best possible outcome for the creature who tossed the coins.
