Backstory: Born a noble in the Abanasinian Empire to Baron Martritz Mercedes was born with a minor Mark of Lamine. Her father died within a year of her birth and the house was abolished as a result. Her mother remarried Baron Bartels, resulting in the birth of her younger brother, Emile, who also inherited a minor Mark of Lamine. Due to both of their Marks, Baron Bartels intended to keep the children as a means of expanding his influence within the noble circles of Abanasinia. Having no true affection for his children, least of all his step-daughter, Mercedes and her mother escaped House Bartels, eventually finding refuge in a Church of Seiros in Eastern Solamnia.
